Get to know the admissions team and how they are staying busy so far this summer!
During quarantine I have gone from working at a desk that moves up and down at the touch of a button to setting up stand up desk with a wood box and laundry basket. I often share that desk with one of my two boys and my office chair with Poppy, our Boston Terrier. I have traded out nights at the baseball field to time on the driveway watching our boys ramp their bikes and scooters off a home built ramp. Of course I have found time to binge “Tiger King” and “Don’t (naughty word) With Cats” as well as something a bit more tame, “Master Chef,” for the kids. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the family walks, mastering of online grocery orders, cooking lessons for the boys, and memories being made!
I live a pretty simple life, but a couple of things that I enjoy the most are music and getting outdoors. I spend a good amount of time playing my acoustic guitar and try to learn something new each week. Eric Church is my favorite artist so that is what I try to play the most. I have found a new love for running during quarantine. Running has provided a nice “escape” where I can take off and get lost in the music as I jog through nature. Times are weird as I currently have my office set up in my parents’ camper, but I look forward to getting back on campus!
Normally, at this time of year, I’d be playing a lot of tennis. That isn’t recommended right now so, instead, I’ve been hitting the trails in Wilderness Park with my dog and taking bike rides on the Jamaica trail. I’ve been reading like crazy, which has been great. I’ve enjoyed “The Grief Cottage” by Gail Godwin, “Becoming” by Michelle Obama, and “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert. I also am diving into the J.D. Robb futuristic “In Death” series. I don’t watch a lot of TV but have been enjoying the “Mrs. America” series from FX and also love watching “The Good Fight.” I feel like I am becoming a better cook these days. Every other week, I get a box of vegetables and goat cheese from a local farm. I’ve been experimenting with cooking vegetables that I haven’t really eaten before. Turnips is an example – who knew I even like them?
