Professor Jessica Shoemaker played several roles during the 86th annual meeting of the Rural Sociological Society.
Professor Shoemaker presented as a reader/discussant during the Author Meets Critics session on Ann Eisenberg’s Reviving Rural America.
Professor Shoemaker also chaired the “Private Land Management” panel and presented her in-progress work, Privatizing the Countryside: The Disappearance of Rural Public Space, as part of that panel.
The annual meeting marked the first meeting of the new Rural Law and Justice Research subgroup, which is meant to connect members interested in exploring sociological approaches to studying the ways in which the law and legal systems are lived, experiences, embodied, and practice in rural spaces and communities.
