Medill named Outstanding Legal Educator by Nebraska State Bar Foundation

Professor Colleen Medill received the Outstanding Legal Educator Award from the Nebraska State Bar Foundation at the Foundation’s 37th Annual Fellows Dinner.

Medill has taught at the University of Nebraska College of Law for 20 years and serves as the Law College Director of Undergraduate Academic Programs. 

She is recognized nationally for her innovative teaching techniques in the fields of Employee Benefits Law, Property Law, and Professional Legal Skills Development. 

Medill provides continuing legal education programs to attorneys and other legal professionals and has authored textbooks and teacher manuals used at numerous ABA-accredited law schools. 

As an author, Professor Medill has had scholarly articles published in journals such as the Cornell Law Review, the Iowa Law Review, the Emory Law Journal, the North Carolina Law Review, and the Michigan Journal of Law Reform. She regularly speaks at national conferences on the responsibilities of employers and the rights of employees. Additionally, she has testified as an invited expert witness before the Department of Labor’s ERISA Advisory Council on trends in fiduciary plan administration and the outsourcing of ERISA fiduciary duties. 

Medill was the first Nebraskan to be elected as a member of the prestigious American College of Employee Benefits Counsel. She is also an elected member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and of the American Law Institute. She is an active member of the Association of American Law Schools and was a substantive expert for the NextGen Bar Commission in the areas of Property/Real Estate Law.

In presenting the award, Dean Richard Moberly said, “Professor Medill is a nationally recognized scholar, a prolific writer, a beloved teacher, and very deserving of the Bar Foundation’s Outstanding Legal Educator Award.”

Bar Foundation President Sharon R. Kresha said that “the Foundation’s Legal Educator Award is a tribute to all of Professor Medill’s accomplishments.”
