The University of Nebraska College of Law has named Velma Lockman as the recipient of the prestigious Theodore Sorensen Fellowship for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Sorensen Fellowship is one of the highest honors awarded by Nebraska Law, recognizing not only exceptional academic achievement but also the promise of future leadership in the legal profession. Established to honor the legacy of Theodore C. Sorensen, ’51, and his family’s deep ties to the College of Law, the fellowship reflects the values of public service and the pursuit of justice.

“The Sorensen Fellowship encourages Nebraska law students, as Mr. Sorensen once did, to use their legal training to improve the world in which we live, rather than devoting their talents solely to private enrichment,” said Dean Richard Moberly. “We are confident that Velma embodies these values and will carry forward this meaningful tradition.”
