Baker, Haratsis, Lund win Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition

The Nebraska Law Trial Team of Zach Baker, ’25, Heather Haratsis, ’25, and Elliott Lund, ’25, finished in first place in the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition and will advance to the National Trial Competition in April. The Nebraska Law team of Melanie Miller, ’25, Connor Oldenburg, ’25, and Marleigh Young, ’25, advanced to the semi-finals of the competition. Both teams were well-prepared and did extremely well in the competition.

The regional competition was hosted by the Creighton University School of Law and was held in the Hruska Federal Courthouse in Omaha, Neb. Twenty teams representing ten law schools from Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin participated. We directly competed against teams from Drake, Minnesota, Mitchell Hamline (Minn), North Dakota, St. Thomas (Minn.), and Wisconsin.

The National Trial Team is coached by Professor Steve Schmidt and Lecturer Megan Kielty, ’16. The witness members of the Nebraska Law team are Alex Hanson, ’25, Zach Hellen, ’25, and Shea McCormic, ’26.
