Launched in January 2025, the Nebraska Innocence Clinic (NIC) at the University of Nebraska College of Law is a clinic that provides pro bono legal services to innocent Nebraskans wrongfully convicted in either state or federal court. The Clinic focuses on teaching students how to conduct post-conviction investigation and litigation for incarcerated people claiming actual innocence, as well as navigating policy work geared towards preventing wrongful convictions and strengthening opportunities for those who have been wrongfully convicted to have their cases revieweed. Supervised by Director Elizabeth Cole, the Clinic has a mixture of second- and third-year students working on eight cases, which vary in location, era, and crime. The Clinic strives to contribute to the integrity of the criminal justice system in Nebraska, and ensures that if there were mistakes made, they can be rectified.
