Class of 2023 celebrates Spring Commencement

Hon. Stephanie F. Stacy, ’91, addressed the Class of 2023 graduates and their guests at the spring commencement ceremony held at the Lied Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, May 20. Justice Stacy sits on the Nebraska Supreme Court, representing the 1st Judicial District. She is the second woman appointed to the Nebraska Supreme Court. Formerly, she served as a 3rd Judicial District Court Judge for Lancaster County and worked in private practice.

Justice Stacy graduated from the College of Law with distinction and was a member of the Nebraska Law Review, the National Moot Court Team, the Allen Moot Court Board and the Order of the Coif. She has taught Trial Advocacy and Pretrial Litigation at Nebraska Law as an adjunct professor.

Also addressing the graduates were Class President Cal R. Thomas, ’23, Hon. Michael G. Heavican, ’75, chief justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court, and Jason W. Grams, ’07, president of the Nebraska State Bar Association. Dean Richard E. Moberly and University of Nebraska President Ted E. Carter delivered opening remarks.

At the ceremony, 118 received Juris Doctor (J.D.) degrees, one received a Doctorate of the Science of Law (J.S.D.) and six received Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees.
