Client Counseling Competition Volunteers Needed

Nebraska Law has participated in the ABA’s Client Counseling Competition for 46 years. In that time, the College has had success at all levels, winning 19 regional and 6 national competitions, as well as the international competition in 2009. In 2022, Professors Brett Stohs & Audrey Polt invite you to play an important part of this tradition of excellence by serving as a judge for the local Frank & Lawson Client Counseling Competition.

The Frank & Lawson Competition will be held the weekend of January 15.

In the competition, two-person law student teams conduct initial interviews of actors playing the roles of clients with problems in a particular subject area of the law. This year’s subject is Civil Rights, but knowledge of this area of law is not necessary to judge the competition. Typically, teams of three judges observe two or three student teams conduct their interviews, critique the teams’ performances, and then evaluate and rank the teams according to written guidelines. All interviews and post-interview feedback discussions will be conducted live.

The total commitment is about 5 hours, including a short orientation program on January 12 and serving as a judge during the morning or afternoon of January 15. All activities will be conducted remotely using Zoom so you can participate from anywhere that has a strong Internet connection!

If you are interested in serving as a judge, please complete the following brief survey: go.unl.edu/clientvolunteer. If possible, please express your interest by Monday, December 20th. We will follow up by email with additional information and an opportunity to confirm your participation sign up.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a proud Nebraska Law tradition. We hope you will share your professional wisdom and experience with today’s law students (tomorrow’s lawyers) in furtherance of their legal education.

If you have any questions, please contact one of the coaches. Thank you for your consideration!
