The College of Law’s Pro Bono Research Fellows Program is a free service for attorneys in need of research assistance on pro bono or reduced-fee, “low bono” legal matters. The program matches interested law students with pro bono attorneys on research projects that range from small assignments taking only a few hours to larger projects that may last an entire semester. Research fellows work directly with the pro bono attorney and may assist beyond research in some circumstances. A member of the College of Law Library Faculty provides students with one-on-one research guidance as needed.
Since launching in July 2019, students have assisted with 17 different matters in Lincoln, Omaha, Holdrege, Syracuse, and Bridgeport, Nebraska as well as Pine Ridge, South Dakota. As COVID-19 places many individuals at risk of losing their otherwise good health and their ability to maintain their livelihood, homes, property and businesses, access to legal services and resources is critical. The Volunteer Lawyers Project maintains a list of pro bono and reduced fee cases where assistance is needed.
