Laura Arp Adjunct Law Professor

Ms. Arp received her B.A. degree in Art and English from Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin in 1996.  She worked as a secretary and paralegal, then received her J.D. degree (with distinction) in 2011 from the University of Nebraska College of Law.  While at Nebraska Law, Ms. Arp was Research Editor of the Nebraska Law Review and Research Assistant to Professor Burkstrand-Reid.  She was also a member of the National Moot Court Team and received the Kenneth L. Noha Best Brief Award in the Allen Moot Court Competition and the McGrath, North, Mullin & Kratz Legal Research and Writing Award.

After law school, Ms. Arp was an associate at Cline, Williams, Wright, Johnson & Oldfather, LLP, specializing in insurance defense, coverage disputes, employment law, and adoptions.  In December 2012, Ms. Arp joined the Nebraska Department of Insurance Legal Division, where she regulates major medical, long-term care, home, auto, crop, commercial, credit and professional liability insurance.

Ms. Arp has lived in Lincoln, Nebraska since 1996.  She serves on the Board of Directors for the Child Advocacy Center, Board of Directors for Goodwill Industries, and United Way Emerging Leaders Steering Committee, and is a member of Leadership Lincoln Class 29.

Sydney Hayes Lecturer, Assistant Director of the First Amendment Clinic

Sydney Hayes joined the faculty in 2023 as the Assistant Director of the First Amendment Clinic.  Prior to joining the University, she was a commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution associate at Husch Blackwell in Omaha, Nebraska.  She has experience in litigation involving complex constitutional issues and business disputes, among others.  In addition to her work with the University she continues to practice at the Law Office of Daniel Gutman.  Her practice focuses on civil rights, election, and ballot initiative issues.  

Sydney received bachelors of arts degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of South Dakota.  She graduated with highest distinction and Order of the Coif from the University of Nebraska College of Law.
