Assistant Dean Molly Brummond

Molly M. Brummond Assistant Dean for Student Development and Chief of Staff

Molly Brummond is a 2003 graduate of Nebraska Law. After several years in private practice, she worked for private industry providing her employer with in-house legal services in addition to business development, marketing, and communications direction. Brummond returned to the College of Law in 2010 and, since that time, has served the College in various roles dealing with alumni relations, student life, and communications. In her current position as Assistant Dean for Student Development, Molly oversees Nebraska Law’s inclusive leadership program development, student-related services and operations, alumni relations, student organizations, and professional skills development opportunities for both students and alumni.

Brummond is most interested in thinking about and teaching leadership and how the theories, skills, and concepts associated apply in the context of lawyering. She is one of the principle developers of the College’s professional skills development program - a program that works to identify leadership and professional skills development opportunities for students that occur both inside and outside of the classroom. The program has received much national attention, and Brummond has written and presented on the topic for the National Conference of Bar Examiners and NALP. As part of the program, Brummond co-teaches the Dean’s Leadership Class - a pop-up class during which students learn about leadership skills such as empathy, listening, cultural competency, and providing feedback, among others. In addition to this class, Brummond leads the New! Associate Acceleration Academy and the Now. Leadership Cohort - two groups that are a part of the College’s broader Women’s Leadership Initiative. Both groups focus on leadership opportunities that women lawyers routinely faced and the skills needed to successfully navigate them. She is currently part of a research team studying why women lawyers thrive in Nebraska – a project also part of the broader Women’s Leadership Initiative. She is a member of the editorial board for the National Association of Women Lawyer’s Women’s Law Journal and a member of the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Women at UNL.

Molly is actively involved in the community of Lincoln, currently serving on the boards of directors for ACLU of Nebraska and CEDARS Youth Services. She is a former member of the executive committee (Past President) and the board of directors for the Food Bank of Lincoln, past Chair of Lincoln's Young Professionals Group, and a past member of the City of Lincoln's Parks & Recreation Advisory Board. Molly received the Nebraska State Bar Foundation’s Visionary Award in 2019 and the Chancellor’s Outstanding Contributions to the Status of Women Award in 2020. The Nebraska Alumni Association presented her with an Early Achiever Award in 2016.
