Distinguished Achievement Awards
In an effort to give these the broadest applicability, the descriptions and criteria are intentionally open-ended. Our intent is to recognize excellence in whatever manifestation as it relates to the University of Nebraska College of Law.
*Distinguished Alumni Award
Purpose:
- To recognize an outstanding graduate of the College of Law for rare distinction in professional achievement.
Criteria:
- Properly Nominated
- Graduate of the University of Nebraska Law College.
- Brings credit to the Law College by virtue of their recognized professional success.
Recognition:
- Medal awarded at Alumni banquet and permanent recognition at Law College through publicly displayed plaque.
*Distinguished Faculty Award
Purpose:
- To recognize a current faculty member of the College of Law whose professional achievements in research, writing, and/or teaching serve to bring credit to College of Law programs.
Criteria:
- Each year all faculty members will be considered through information provided by their yearly submission of the Annual Report to the Dean. No individual can win the award more than once every five years.
Recognition:
- Cash prize, personal plaque awarded at alumni banquet, and permanent recognition at Law College through publicly displayed plaque.
*Woods & Aitken Outstanding Student Award
Purpose:
- To recognize a current 3rd year College of Law Student who exemplifies the qualities of loyalty, service, and achievement to the community of the College of Law.
Criteria:
- Currently enrolled in the College of Law
- Good academic standing
- Brings benefit to the community of the Law School through their actions and commitment.
- Self-nominations are accepted.
- Faculty, staff, alumni, or students may also submit nominations.
Recognition:
- Cash prize, medal awarded at Alumni banquet and hooding ceremony, and permanent recognition at Law College through publicly displayed plaque.
*Award for Outstanding Service to the Law School
Purpose:
- To recognize an individual for outstanding service to the University of Nebraska College of Law.
Criteria:
- Properly Nominated
- Distinguished by demonstrating loyalty, leadership and service to the College of Law.
- (Not necessarily a graduate of the Law College. Leaves room for faculty, administrators, or donors who have not graduated from the Law College.)
Recognition:
- Medal awarded at Alumni banquet and permanent recognition at Law College through publicly displayed plaque.
