Students talk inside classroom

We're committed to our alumni and friends and proud to offer a variety of programming opportunities throughout the academic year. Our Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs allows Nebraska Law faculty and distinguished guests to share their efforts to address current legal issues through legal research and scholarship.

Outside of presentation-style opportunities, the Attorney-Student Mentor Program focuses on maximizing the Nebraska Law experience, professional goal-setting, and developing a professional network for the student. These experiences are all wonderful opportunities to connect with the Nebraska Law community of students, faculty and fellow alumni.

Some of our programming opportunities are offered in person, remotely via Zoom, and/or both.
Please refer to each program separately for the ways in which you can attend.

Attorney General Jon Bruning Public Service Lecture with Attorney General Mike Hilgers

April 11, 2024

The Attorney General Jon Burning Lecture was established to provide an opportunity for students to focus on the significance of dedicating all or a portion of one’s career to public service. Bruning served as attorney general of Nebraska from 2003-2015 and as a state senator from 1997-2002. Bruning graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with high distinction and graduated with distinction from the Nebraska College of Law in 1994.

This year’s speaker is Attorney General Mike Hilgers. A.G. Hilgers lecture is titled “Serving the Public and Influencing the Discourse – The Importance and Impact of Attorneys.” Attorney General Hilgers will talk about his legal training, from law school and into legal practice and in his role in government service, and the frameworks that help positively resolve disputes in the law and in the legislative process. Hear how those same frameworks, and lawyers to deploy them, are needed in today’s political environment.

This has been approved for 1.0 continuing legal education credit in Nebraska.

These have implications beyond the issue of abortion. In his lecture, Mr. Forsythe will explore not only the necessity of overturning Roe v. Wade but the implications of the Dobbs decision for law and bioethics in the States.
